After making a plea for keeping ecclesial politics subordinated to our Unity and Love for one another, Fr. Anthony makes a case for the priesthood being one of many options for those desiring to serve God and His Church. He also spends time introducing a book on vocations that the founder of the GGWB website, Fr. John Peck, recently released.  Enjoy the show!

I tried to volunteer for any ministry at my new parish to help out where needed. The Pastor and Sub Deacon were at best clipped in their communications, cold in their interaction and sadly very unwelcoming. In Short, it appears that was sand bagged by those who “Feared for their positions” Nor wanted to “Make room for a Johnny come Lately.” Sigh, Guess it is better to continue to work on my prayer life than bump heads and step on toes!

I am sorry to hear that, but I would encourage you to withhold judgment on intentions for now. You mention that you are new to the parish; some priests have been burnt by people who come in with a lot of enthusiasm, but then fail to follow through. This is certainly nothing against you! My point is that it may take time to develop a relationship of trust. Regular attendance, patience, and charity (and avoiding the various temptations which are strong in such situations) will help with that. So yes, continue to work on your prayer life (and avoid bumping heads and stepping on toes), but don’t give up your enthusiasm to roll up your sleeves! It just may take a bit of time. Yours in Christ, Fr Anthony Perkins
