In our desire to facilitate vocations, we have made several friends in monasteries around the country. One of them in the St. Columba of Iona Orthodox Monastery in Southbridge, MA. This is a good chance to do some discerning in a unique monastic environment.
The Monastery of St. Columba of Iona in Southbridge, Massachusetts is now accepting applications for the new Summer Associate Program. This tradition began with Metropolitan Jonah (OCA), at the Monastery of St. John in Manton, California in 2006. Monasteries traditionally take in seekers during the summer months to explore monastic life. Anyone 18 or older with a desire to learn more about the spiritual life in a monastery should consider our Summer Associate Program.
This summer, the monastery will host men who seek a deeper spiritual life to come and live at the monastery, worship with us in the services, and work alongside the monks at their daily obediences.
Summer associates will have the opportunity for frequent confession and communion, listening to spiritual talks, and learning traditional monastic arts such as soap making, caring for the monastery chickens and the gardens. Associates will also have the opportunity to assist in the social outreach programs of the monastery. Three times each month we open the monastery kitchen to our neighbors in need and serve them a meal. We feed them not only physically but spiritually. Those with singing talents are invited to join the cantor on Sunday for Divine Liturgy.
Associates are invited to come for a month (during Late July and August). Some stay longer, some less. We have the ability to host two associates at a time, so it is important to get your registration in early.
